Die Volvo Car Group treibt ihre Vision von einem unfallfreien Straßenverkehr weiter voran: Auf der International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) vom 6. bis 9. Januar 2015 in Las Vegas präsentiert der Premium-Automobilhersteller gemeinsam mit zwei weiteren schwedischen Unternehmen, POC und Ericsson, ein neues einzigartiges Sicherheitssystem, das Fahrrad- und Autofahrer zum ersten Mal miteinander vernetzt und Unfälle zukünftig verhindern kann. Volvo ist damit der erste Automobilhersteller, der dieses Problem dank vernetzter Sicherheitstechnik lösen möchte.
Mit einem vernetzten Volvo Modell und einem Prototypen eines Fahrradhelms könnten Auto- und Fahrradfahrer in Zukunft miteinander kommunizieren. Smartphone-Apps wie Strava registrieren über GPS die Position des Radfahrers und übermitteln sie in die Volvo Cloud des Fahrzeugs. Droht eine Kollision zwischen Auto und Fahrrad, werden beide Fahrer alarmiert: Der Autofahrer bekommt eine Warnung direkt ins Head-up-Display seines Volvo Modells geliefert – und zwar schon dann, wenn der Radfahrer für das menschliche Auge unsichtbar im toten Winkel, versteckt hinter einem stehenden Fahrzeug oder bei Dunkelheit unterwegs ist. Den Radfahrer wiederum informiert eine Warnleuchte an seinem Fahrradhelm über die drohende Gefahr. Unfälle können so effektiv vermieden werden.
Jeder zweite Verkehrstote ist derzeit laut dem Verkehrssicherheitsreport der Weltgesundheitsorganisation (WHO) ein „schwacher“ Verkehrsteilnehmer. Allein in Deutschland verunglückten nach Angaben des Statistischen Bundesamtes 2012 insgesamt 74.776 Fahrradfahrer, 406 davon tödlich. 50 Prozent aller tödlichen Fahrrad-Unfälle resultieren aus einer Kollision mit Autos.
Dieses innovative, cloud-basierte Sicherheitskonzept resultiert aus der Zusammenarbeit der drei schwedischen Unternehmen Volvo Cars, POC – dem weltweit führenden Hersteller von Schutzkleidung für Extremsportler und Radfahrer – sowie dem Technologie- und Kommunikationskonzern Ericsson. Das Unfallrisiko für schwächere Verkehrsteilnehmer wie Radfahrer soll damit deutlich reduziert werden.

Unser City Safety System, das serienmäßig im neuen Volvo XC90 zum Einsatz kommt, erkennt Fahrradfahrer, warnt vor einer drohenden Kollision und leitet bei Bedarf vollautomatisch eine Notbremsung ein. Doch mit cloud-basierten Sicherheitssystemen gehen wir noch einen Schritt weiter und eliminieren tote Winkel, um Unfälle noch effektiver zu verhindern“, erklärt Klas Bendrik, Vice President und CIO der Volvo Car Group.
