Der bereits zum dritten Mal von der Koch Automobile AG gemeinsam mit Berlin läuft! veranstaltete Mazda IGA-Lauf am 29. Mai 2016 entwickelt sich zum Beliebtheitsmagneten: bei den verschiedenen Volksläufen durch die Gärten der Welt sowie über das Gelände der Internationalen Gartenausstellung Berlin 2017 (IGA) konnte ein neuer Teilnehmerrekord verbucht werden. In den verschiedenen Wettbewerben gingen insgesamt 2.016 Läuferinnen und Läufer an den Start. War das Wetter in den Vorjahren jedoch überwiegend kritikwürdig, konnte man über den strahlend blauen Himmel diesmal „nicht meckern“. Im Gegenteil, für manchen Aktiven war der Temperaturrekord der IGA-Laufgeschichte fast schon zuviel des Guten und so wurde die Streckenversorgung mit kühlem Nass zur sportlichen Herausforderung für die Organisatoren.
Gewinner waren aber nicht nur Wetter und Veranstalter, sondern vor allem die Spitenläufer: Tobias Singer (1. Vfl Fortuna Marzahn) gewann das 10-km-Rennen in 35:14 der Herren, Mayada Al-Sayad (ebenfalls 1. Vfl Fortuna Marzahn) war mit 36:18 die schnellste Frau. Das Rennen über 10 km hatte mit fast 1.500 Läufern das größte Teilnehmerfeld, aber auch das Feld über die 5-km-Distanz war beachtlich. Es siegte Christoph Soelmacker in 17:57 Minuten, schnellste Frau war über diese Strecke Susanne Lauer mit 20:20 Minuten.
Der Mazda IGA-Lauf verläuft durch eine malerische Park- und Gartenlandschaft, die momentan mit letzten gestalterischen Arbeiten ihrer großflächigen Erweiterung für die IGA 2017 entgegen geht. Der Kurs begann am Sonntag in den Gärten der Welt und führte vorbei am Irr- und Renaissancegarten, am Italienischen und Chinesischen Garten, am Wuhleteich sowie um den Kienberg herum. Die stetig steigende Teilnehmer- und Publikumsresonanz, die Verankerung einer Tradition im Heimat-Stadtbezirk sowie der wachsende sportliche Stellenwert lassen nur eine Entscheidung zu: Titelsponsor Mazda und das Autohaus Koch werden ihr Engagement nach dieser gelungenen Veranstaltung auch im nächsten Jahr fortsetzen!
