Mazda feiert einen Dreifach-Erfolg beim diesjährigen „Automotive Brand Contest“: Neben dem neuen Mazda CX-3 und dem Mazda Fahrrad by KODO Design, zeichnete die Expertenjury das globale Design Team des japanischen Automobilherstellers aus, das für die preisgekrönte Formgebung aller neuen Mazda Modelle verantwortlich ist. Das Team der vier von Chefdesigner Ikuo Maeda geführten Designstudios sind das „Team of the Year“. Die Preise werden im Rahmen der Automotive Designers Night am ersten Pressetag (15. September) der Internationalen Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) in Frankfurt verliehen.
Das Team um Ikuo Maeda erlebt derzeit den bisherigen Höhepunkt in der Mazda Design-Geschichte und darf sich nun als alleiniger Gewinner über die Auszeichnung „Team of the Year“ freuen. In den vier Mazda Designstudios in Japan (Hiroshima und Yokohama), Europa (Oberursel, Deutschland) und Nordamerika (Irvine, Kalifornien) arbeitet die Mannschaft daran, neue dynamische Ausdrucksformen im Automobil-Design zu entwickeln und sie auf Serienmodelle zu übertragen. Jüngstes Modell in der Mazda Formensprache „KODO – Soul of Motion“ ist der Mazda CX-3, der die Designjury ebenfalls überzeugt hat.
Das B-Segment-Crossover, das erst Mitte Juni seinen Marktstart feierte, gehört zu den „Best of the Best“ in der Kategorie „Exterior Volume Brand“. Das kleine Crossover-SUV verkörpert perfekt die Designsprache KODO: Fließende Linien und eine weit nach hinten versetzte Fahrerkabine treffen auf SUV-typische Eigenschaften wie eine kraftvolle Front, große Räder und eine hohe Gürtellinie. Eine Kombination, die ankommt und dem jüngsten Mitglied der Mazda Familie schon viele Preise, wie den Red Dot Design Award 2015 und die Design Trophy 2015, eingebracht hat.
Das Mazda Fahrrad by KODO Design, das eigens für die Milan Design Week 2015 entworfen wurde, repräsentiert die Mazda Designphilosophie außerhalb der Automobilbranche: Inspiriert von der natürlichen Bewegung wildlebender Tiere, wirkt es kraftvoll und dynamisch zugleich. Für diese eindrucksvolle Kombination gab es nun die Auszeichnung „Winner“ in der Kategorie „Parts & Accessories“.
Der „Automotive Brand Contest“ kürt herausragendes internationales Produkt- und Kommunikationsdesign und wird vom Rat für Formgebung initiiert. Die 1953 ins Leben gerufene Stiftung gehört zu den weltweit führenden Kompetenzzentren im Bereich Design. Die Preise werden in 15 verschiedenen Kategorien sowie in vier Sonderkategorien verliehen. Eine Jury aus Experten der Bereiche Medien, Design, Kommunikation und Hochschule entscheidet über die Auszeichnungen.
